THE RACER
The Racer (formerly known as Stuedabakerbrown) is a rare incarnation of the modern independent band – one that matches its creativity and pop sensibility equally with determination and business smarts. They bring the type of kinetic energy to the music scene that can only grow naturally from a group of true friends sharing a common passion. These five suburbanites from north of New York City take to the stage with a contagious enthusiasm that electrifies their live show, excites new fans, and garners great respect from fellow musicians. The success of their debut album, 2010’s Strangers We’ll Become has ushered in a growing list of professional accolades including numerous placements on TV shows such as MTV’s Jersey Shore, The Real World: New Orleans, and The Challenge to name just a few, and availability of the single “Couch Sitting Rattlesnake” on the hit video game Rock Band 3. The band has also cultivated an incredible road-worthiness, supplementing multiple DIY tours of the Northeast, Upper Midwest, and West Coast with recent selections to Austin, TX’s Red Gorilla Music Fest, Milwaukee, WI’s Summerfest, and opening slots for headliners such as Say Anything, Matt and Kim, and Rusted Root, among others.
The Racer’s 2nd full-length album Passengers (November 2012) is the heartfelt and powerful follow-up to Strangers We’ll Become. The band chose to take a new approach to the songwriting process with their latest work. While not a proper “concept album,” the self-released sophomore effort, produced by Mike Kalajian, is a deliberate and imaginative exploration of the moment-of-death soul searching that occurs in the wake of a devastating fictional accident. Every aspect, from the lyrics and musical arrangements to the recording process and artwork, was approached under the pretext of this narrative. Despite great pride in their craft and incredibly positive reviews, mainstream success has eluded them. Don’t let that fool you – there is no stopping a determined group of musicians armed with a great product, undying dedication, and a small army of loyal supporters.
